Lead
Lead-based paint is a major source of lead poisoning for children and can also affect adults. Lead poisoning can cause brain damage and can result in impaired mental functions.
Lead-based paint may be found on any interior or exterior surface in older homes, particularly on woodwork, doors, and windows and was used in homes built between 1940 and 1960.
At K-tech Environmental we employ fully trained hazardous materials specialists, certified in lead removal.
There are two ways to rid your home of lead-based paint: repair and abatement.
REPAIR
First the area would be quarantined and all loose or flaking paint would be removed. The area would then be sanded, primed and re-painted.
ABATEMENT
Abatement involves quarantining the area, stripping all paint from the affected area, sanding, priming and repainting.
This may sound like a simple home repair but lead-based paint should only be removed by professionals, trained in hazardous material removal. Consumers should not attempt to remove lead-based paint. K-tech's trained professionals must follow very detailed procedures to minimize, control and contain lead dust generated by the removal process.
